What is internet failover?

Failover is an automatic backup connection. A failover router monitors your primary line — usually fibre — and the moment it stops reaching the internet, it switches all traffic to a second connection, typically mobile 4G/5G broadband. What is internet failover?

Failover is an automatic backup connection. When the primary line returns, it switches back automatically. The goal is zero, or near-zero, downtime.

How does a 4G/5G failover router work?

The router has two internet sources: your primary wired connection and a mobile connection via a SIM card. It continuously checks that the primary line actually reaches the internet, not just that the cable is plugged in. If it fails, the router routes all traffic over 4G/5G within seconds, and your devices keep the same network without any manual change.

How fast does it switch over?

A good failover router detects an outage and switches to mobile within a few seconds. Brief sessions like a phone call may blip, but web browsing, card terminals and most apps simply continue. Switching back to the primary line when it recovers is just as automatic.
