How to test your broadband correctly
To measure your broadband and not just your WiFi — connect the computer with a network cable. WiFi almost always shows lower speeds, especially far from the router or through several walls. Close other apps, pause downloads and other devices, and run the test a couple of times for a stable value.

What affects your speed?
The most common reasons for lower-than-expected speed are WiFi (distance, walls and interference), how many devices share the connection at once, an older router, and network load during the evening rush. On mobile broadband, coverage and distance to the mast also matter — an external antenna can make a big difference there.
Ping and jitter affect how responsive the connection feels. Low ping and low jitter give smoother video calls, streaming and gaming — even if the raw speed isn’t extremely high.

Common questions about speed tests
What is a good internet speed?
It depends on how you use the internet. 5 Mbit/s is enough for HD streaming, around 25 Mbit/s for 4K, and video calls need just 3–5 Mbit/s. For a whole household streaming, gaming and working at the same time, 100 Mbit/s or more gives comfortable margins. Latency (ping) matters most for gaming and video calls — lower is better.
How do I test my broadband correctly?

Close other apps and downloads, pause other devices, and run the test a couple of times to get a stable value. Testing over WiFi far from the router mainly measures the WiFi, not your broadband.
