4G & 5G routers

Router for mobile broadband

Mobile broadband needs a router with a SIM card that turns the mobile signal into WiFi and a wired network throughout your home. Here we walk through how to choose the right router, the difference between 4G and 5G, and which pre-configured routers we offer.

What is a mobile-broadband router?

A mobile-broadband router is a router with a built-in 4G/5G modem and a slot for a SIM card. Instead of connecting to a fibre socket, it pulls internet from the mobile network and shares the connection to all your devices — wirelessly over WiFi and via network cable. The result is just like ordinary broadband at home, but without a fixed installation.

That makes a mobile router perfect at the cabin, in the camper, as backup when the fibre goes down, or as the main connection where fibre is missing. You insert the SIM card, switch the router on and you’re connected in minutes — no technician and no fibre socket needed.

How to choose the right router

Four things decide which router suits you best:

4G or 5G

A 5G router gives the highest speed where 5G is available. A 4G router works almost everywhere and is enough for most.

WiFi 6

WiFi 6 gives a faster, more stable wireless network for many devices at once — great for streaming and smart homes.

Antenna ports & LAN

External-antenna ports help with weak coverage, and LAN ports let you connect a computer, TV or network by cable.

Frequency bands

The router must support the bands used in Sweden. Our routers are chosen and configured for Swedish networks.

Our routers

We’ve selected reliable MikroTik routers and configure them for Swedish networks before shipping — ready to plug in.

5G

MikroTik Chateau LTE18 ax

Our 5G router with WiFi 6 — the top pick for maximum speed, a busy household, 4K streaming and gaming. Also works on 4G.

4G

MikroTik Chateau LTE12

Affordable 4G router that works virtually anywhere with mobile coverage. Plenty for browsing, streaming and work.

You choose the router directly when ordering mobile broadband — buy it outright or split the cost over 12 months. Current prices are shown at checkout.

Is the router included in the plan?

Our plain SIM plans include the SIM card, and you add a router when you order if you need one. The FIXED IP and Router Failover packages include the router in the price. If you already have a 4G/5G router you’re happy with, the SIM card from us is all you need.

  • SIM plans: SIM card included, router added if needed
  • FIXED IP & Router Failover: router included
  • Own router? Then you only need the SIM card

External antenna for better coverage

Most people get good speed right away with the router’s built-in antennas. If you get a weak signal indoors it’s usually down to thick walls or a long distance to the nearest mast. An external antenna, mounted higher up or outside and aimed at the mast, can then lift both speed and stability considerably.

Our Swedish support will help you check coverage at your address and choose the right router and antenna setup — just get in touch.

Common questions about mobile-broadband routers

Which router do I need for mobile broadband?

You need a 4G/5G router with a slot for the SIM card. The router turns the mobile signal into WiFi and wired internet for your home, just like a regular broadband router. Choose a 5G router if you have 5G coverage and want the highest speed, or a 4G router where 4G is the practical option. All our routers come pre-configured and ready to plug in.

4G or 5G router — which should I choose?

A 5G router gives the highest speeds where there is 5G coverage and is the best choice for a busy household, 4K streaming and gaming. A 4G router is a more affordable option that works virtually everywhere and is plenty for most everyday use. If you are unsure, check the coverage at your address or ask our support — a 5G router also works on 4G, so it is a future-proof pick.

Can I use my own router?

Yes. If you already have a 4G/5G router you are happy with, you only need the SIM card from us — insert it and you are connected. Just make sure the router supports the network (4G/5G) and the frequency bands used in Sweden.

Do I need an external antenna?

Not usually. Most homes get good speeds with the router’s built-in antennas. If you have a weak signal indoors — thick walls or a long distance to the mast — an external antenna mounted higher up or outside can make a big difference. Contact our support and we will help you check coverage and choose the right setup.

Is the router included in the plan?

It depends on the plan. Our plain SIM plans include the SIM card, and you add a router (buy it outright or split the cost over 12 months) when you order. The FIXED IP and Router Failover packages include the router. Either way it ships pre-configured and ready to use.
